Quantum Machine Learning: The Unexpected future of AI

A glowing digital brain hovering over a futuristic quantum circuit board, symbolizing the integration of artificial intelligence and quantum computing technologies.

What Is Quantum Computing?

Quantum Mechanics is a branch of physics which explains how the tiniest particles in the universe behave which is often in ways that are bizarre and unpredictable, for example: particles being in two places at once or being entangled, meaning their states are linked no matter how far apart. Its the foundation for quantum computing which uses this behaviour to solve problems that are impossible for normal computers.

What Does This Mean For AI?

Quantum computing gives AI the power to crack problems that were once too complex or time-consuming for it to complete; a new medicine or material that needs to fit a specific criteria? Completed in minutes as multiple possibilities are explored at once through an algorithm enhanced beyond our comprehension.

In 20 years we could easily have drugs that aid us in ways we can’t even imagine right now. Multiverse Computing is a company using quantum and quantum-inspired machine learning to reduce the cost and energy demands of AI, helping industries from cybersecurity to defence.

Quantum machine learning is still in its early stages with more theory than practise but with involvements from titans to smaller startups, any progress made in the area would fundamentally change not only computing but AI as we know it now; less predictable and more powerful, capable of tackling problems that today’s technology can’t even begin to solve.
